WELCOME TO

Accountability Matters

QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER

Newsletter | October 2024

Welcome to the October issue of Accountability Matters.

As this issue rolls off the virtual presses, two dozen independent accountability mechanisms have just concluded their annual gathering at the headquarters of the Asian Development Bank in Metro Manila. The IAMnet Annual Meetings, facilitated by the Secretariat that was held for the last two years by the World Bank Accountability Mechanism, also featured a day of interactions with civil society. In early 2025, the IAMnet Secretariat will be passed on to the Accountability Mechanism of the Asian Development Bank. We will in the meantime be busy completing remaining tasks and preparing for a smooth handover. (Read the IAMnet Secretariat’s report for 2022-2024.)

One personality who was greatly missed was IAMnet’s unofficial poet laureate, David Simpson, who is ending his tenure heading the Independent Recourse Mechanism of the African Development Bank. He shared his reflections on accountability in this issue of Accountability Matters. We wish him all the best!

The Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group follow later in the month, and I am happy to announce that I will be participating in a panel on accountability in fragile and conflict-affected areas alongside Inspection Panel Member Ibrahim Pam.

We hope you enjoy this edition of Accountability Matters. Please let us know if you have any comments or story ideas for the newsletter at accountability@worldbank.org.
