Tanzania REGROW complaint: no agreement to pursue Dispute Resolution

On December 11, 2023, Orsolya Székely, the Accountability Mechanism Secretary, informed the Executive Directors that a complaint related to a World Bank project in Tanzania is returned to the Inspection Panel to commence an investigation. There was no agreement between the parties to pursue dispute resolution.

The complaint was filed by two individuals from a community in Tanzania, alleging that the World Bank-financed Resilient Natural Resource Management for Tourism and Growth (REGROW) project in Tanzania did not adhere to several World Bank policies and procedures. According to the Accountability Mechanism process, and following the Board’s approval of the Inspection Panel’s Report and Recommendation, the Accountability Mechanism Secretary offered both the complainants and the Government of Tanzania an opportunity to pursue dispute resolution.

Dispute Resolution is a voluntary process for both parties, and if either does not agree to participate, according to the Accountability Mechanism operating procedures, the AM Secretary informs the Executive Directors and the case is returned to the Inspection Panel.
