Accountability Matters

QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER

Newsletter | June 2023

Our newsletter often covers issues related to accountability for development banks around the world, but this issue features three stories in our own backyard.

The first is a great introduction to the newest Inspection Panel member, Ibrahim Pam, who reflects broadly on his career and specifically on why one peacekeeper stint was especially meaningful to him. A second story is Panel Chairperson Ramanie Kunanayagam’s insightful account of several ideas put forward during the Inspection Panel’s 30th anniversary event in the Spring. And a third story looks at the Dispute Resolution Service’s first two case outcomes: settlements in Nepal and Uganda, both concluded at the last hour. Finally, we have a fourth story on two incredible accountability champions from Kenya and Burundi, as named by the Independent Recourse Mechanism, the accountability mechanism of the African Development Bank.

We hope you enjoy this edition, and, as always, please let us know if you have any comments or story ideas, at accountability@worldbank.org.
